Tweetie acquired by Twitter

Atebits owner, developer Loren Brichter announced yesterday that Tweetie has been acquired by Twitter, renaming the iPhone version to Twitter for iPhone and setting its price to free, in a few weeks time.

What this holds in store for the Tweetie for Mac client, we have no idea as neither Twitter nor Loren has said anything about that. He has however commented and made clear that the beta version of Tweetie 2 for Mac, will be available soon, just as promised for the MacHeist bundle purchasers.

If the agreement included Tweetie for Mac, we don’t know, but since nothing has been said about it, it is highly unlikely. I for one, hope that Tweetie for Mac will continue to live because it is my choice of Twitter client on the Mac.

Tweetie 1.2 supports video!

Atebits today released version 1.2 of Tweetie for the Mac! The new version has got quite a few bug fixes (one of the major improving the 32-bit stability) and among the new features are a new URL-shortening service support (tinyarro.ws), better Growl support, a three-finger back swiping on multitouch-enabled trackpads as well as support for dragging in video to Tweet and recording videos instantly via the iSight camera! Get the update from within the application menus or on the atebits website.

Atebits releases Tweetie for Mac: First Looks

After long time promises, Atebits has today released the new Twitter client for the Mac called appropriately, Tweetie for Mac. It comes from the same maker as Tweetie for the iPhone which’s struck a cord with many iPhone users and has been developed exclusively for the Mac platform, something that especially shows in the neat interface. The feature set is pretty standard but with some twists in the UI side of things like a new tweet window that can be accessed using a system-wide shortcut from everywhere. Another great feature is multiple accounts!
